SOR SENSOR Basic Bottle Sampling Systems (BBSS Series)
The SENSOR Basic Bottle Sampling System (BBSS) by SOR Controls Group is the global industry benchmark for safe, reliable, and emission-free closed-loop 'grab' sampling of liquid process streams at sampling pressures under 150 psig (10 bar). Installed across continuous fast-loop or bypass piping lines, the BBSS utilizes a proprietary Primary Flow-Thru Sample Valve featuring a side-ported needle design with packing positioned below the stem threads—guaranteeing that process media never contacts the operating mechanism to prevent valve seizure, corrosion, and fugitive emissions. When paired with the optional SENSOR Needle Evacuation System (NES), instrument air or nitrogen purges all lingering liquid residue from the internal diameter of the process dispensing needle after collection, completely eliminating clogging, weeping, and sample cross-contamination. Available with shatterproof PVC or stainless steel bottle shrouds, dual non-coring needles, and TA-Luft low emissions certification.
Safe closed-loop grab sampling of process liquids under continuous fast-loop circulation
Primary Flow-Thru needle valve with stem packing below threads prevents process seizing and stem fouling
Side-ported vent needle prevents liquid backflow and blockage of the vapor vent line
Replaceable dual process and vent needles (.083" to .148" OD) manufactured in heavy-duty 316SS

Operational & Maintenance Guidelines
Verify that fast-loop return pressure is lower than supply pressure to maintain continuous bypass velocity.
Ensure sample bottle with septum is pushed fully into shroud until needles penetrate the elastomeric liner.
Open Flow-Thru valve smoothly to dispense desired volume, then close tightly before disengaging bottle.
If equipped with NES, activate inert gas purge for 5-10 seconds to blow clear the process needle bore.
Closed-Loop Bottle Grab Sampling Architecture
Conventional open-drain or open-beaker sampling exposes plant personnel to toxic chemical vapors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and hazardous splashes, while allowing ambient air and moisture to degrade analytical sample integrity.
The SENSOR BBSS system eliminates these hazards by creating a hermetically sealed path between the process pipe and the sample container. When a septum-capped bottle is pushed upward into the protective shroud, the dual-needle assembly punctures the cap. Opening the Flow-Thru valve routes active fast-loop fluid through the process needle into the bottle, while displaced air and vapors vent safely to a flare, vapor recovery line, or carbon canister.
Hermetically sealed septum penetration keeps hazardous vapors contained within closed collection loop
Continuous fast-loop bypass ensures grab sample represents real-time process composition without delay
Side-ported process and vent needles prevent rubber coring from entering and contaminating the liquid
Rugged shroud protects operators from potential glass breakage caused by thermal or mechanical stress
