SOR SENSOR Cylinder Sampling Systems (LGSS & VSS Series)
The SENSOR Liquefied Gas Sampling System (LGSS) and Vapor Sampling System (VSS) from SOR Controls Group are engineered for safe, emission-free closed-loop 'grab' sampling of high vapor pressure liquids, liquefied petroleum gases (LPGs), process vapors, and refinery gases directly into sample cylinders. Operating under continuous fast-loop flow via a process bypass or parallel line off the main pipeline, the system ensures fresh, representative samples without process lag time. The LGSS incorporates an integral 600# ANSI sight flow indicator with a physical flapper/rotor, providing operators with direct visual verification of cylinder filling and safe vapor space outage before disconnection. Built with a single 4-way sampling valve for foolproof operation, the system allows full depressurization and venting of quick-connect fittings prior to cylinder removal, eliminating toxic fugitive emissions and safeguarding personnel. Designed for operating pressures up to 1,440 psig (99.3 bar / 2,000 psig max @ 70 °F) and process temperatures to 350 °F (177 °C), systems can be customized with sample coolers, heat-traced insulated enclosures, SilcoNert internal inert coatings, and exotic alloys (Hastelloy C-276, Monel 400).
Safe, zero-emission closed-loop grab sampling for LPGs, liquefied hydrocarbons, and toxic process gases
Single 4-way sampling valve operation simplifies sampling procedure and eliminates operator sequencing errors
Integral 600# ANSI sight flow level indicator provides direct visual confirmation of flow and safe cylinder outage
Quick-connect vent and depressurization system ensures zero pressure discharge when removing the cylinder

Operational & Maintenance Guidelines
Ensure fast loop inlet is connected to the high-pressure tap and outlet returns to a lower-pressure process line point.
For liquefied gas sampling, visually monitor the sight glass until full flow is established, then expand cylinder outage.
Depressurize quick connects to flare or vent canister prior to uncoupling sample cylinder.
Inspect Viton/Kalrez O-rings and quick-connect seals periodically; replace at first sign of wear or chemical degradation.
Closed-Loop Closed-System Sampling Architecture
Industrial grab sampling of volatile hydrocarbons, liquefied petroleum gases, and toxic vapors requires stringent environmental and operator safeguards. The SENSOR LGSS and VSS systems from SOR provide a continuous bypass loop off the main process line that circulates fresh product across a proprietary 4-way multiport sampling valve.
When the operator rotates the single valve handle from 'Bypass/Off' to 'Sample', process fluid fills the sample cylinder from bottom to top. For liquefied gases (LGSS), the fluid exits the top of the cylinder through an integral 600# ANSI sight glass back to the low-pressure process return. When liquid flow is observed in the sight glass, the operator turns the handle to 'Off' and opens the expansion outage valve, ensuring the cylinder retains the required 20% vapor space for safe thermal expansion during transport to the laboratory.
Continuous bypass circulation eliminates sample lag time and guarantees that fluid collected is fully representative
Single-handle 4-way valve eliminates multi-valve manifold sequencing errors and accidental releases
Complete depressurization of the sample cylinder quick connects to flare or carbon canister prior to disconnect
Proprietary SENSOR orientation bracket ensures sample cylinders cannot be connected upside down
Sight glass visual indicator eliminates overfilling and dangerous hydrostatic overpressurization of cylinders

Engineering & Safety Considerations
In closed-loop grab sampling, safety depends on maintaining containment during both collection and cylinder transport. SENSOR sampling cylinders can be furnished with internal outage dip tubes, spring relief valves, or rupture discs calibrated to DOT/TC transport specifications.
Where process vent-to-flare connections are unavailable, SENSOR provides activated carbon canisters with color-indicating chemical crystals that turn from purple to brown upon saturation, providing clear visual notice when adsorption media requires replenishment.
Optional SilcoNert 2000 internal passivation coating prevents adsorption of trace sulfur (H2S, mercaptans) and mercury
Isolation block valves (IB) on inlet and outlet allow complete offline maintenance without shutting down the bypass line
Galvanized or 304SS 2" x 60" pipe stand with mounting base plate allows standalone field installation near sample taps
